Brian and I had the great joy to return to Zilker Elementary where our children spent their elementary years and where we met Grace London who plays our hero, Ivy Wire. So it was a homecoming for us and the loving atmosphere we enjoyed was just as we remembered it to be. Thank you to librarian extraordinaire, Jackie Kraal and 5th grade Language Arts teacher, Judi Thompson for the warm welcome! There is nothing better than an audience of young, smiling, smart, curious kids! We had a ball!

The Austin Chronicle: Review of Last Saturday’s Event at BookPeople

IVY and The WICKER SUITCASE is OUT! Man, what an audience. BookPeople, Austin, Texas, January 11, 2014. Lots and lots of loving friends and many exciting strangers made up a standing room only crowd. Brian began with an EPIC poem setting the scene and filling us in with IVY’s exciting back story. Next we heard musical performances by Kathy McCarty, Grace London and Brian, a bit of the actual audio from the musical, one more live song performed by Brian and finally, the song So Far Away played from the CD audio (performed by Grace London) while the Illustrated “crankie” spooled by. Huge thanks to all our kickstarter friends and every performer and musician who participated in the making of Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase!

“Everything is cynical or ironic these days,” shrugs Beattie. “I didn’t want that. I wanted to make something delightful.”
What is inside Ivy’s Wicker Suitcase?
Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase is now available on this site, and also, at Women and Their Work Art Gallery’s gift shop here in Austin. But the big news is that Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase will have it’s official World wide premier and release party at Book People here in Austin on Saturday, January 11, at 5pm. Bring the kids! Bring your friends and family. This will be a real treat. Brian Beattie will play and sing songs as will Kathy McCarty and our hero, Grace London! There will be new art in the “cranky” form–a scroll of illustrations cranked along to illustrate a tune from the musical. Music, Art and Friends! Mark the date, come help us celebrate!!! We’ll sign books and answer all your burning Ivy questions!
The News is this: Ivy and the Wicker Suitcase will be in our hands within the next 2 weeks! Our plan is to have it available immediately as a local, “soft”, release. Then, in January, we’ll release it state-wide and by spring, hopefully, we’ll release it nationally.
We’ll take preorders immediately and sell through this site as soon as we have stock in hand. If you’d like to preorder please contact us and we’ll confirm with an email.
